Many vision problems in children don’t show obvious signs, which is why a full eye exam — not just a a vision screening — is so important. Conditions like nearsightedness, amblyopia (lazy eye), or eye alignment issues can affect a child’s development, learning, and social skills.
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), children should have their eyes examined between 6-12 months, again at age three, and then at the start of school. After that, exams should be done at least every two years. A child’s eyes change as they grow, so regular check-ups are essential.
